JOINT RELEASE: Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Purchase New Ambulance Unit

May 20, 2016

During the week of May 15-21, 2016, National Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Week takes place with the intent to celebrate EMS personnel and recognize the work they do on a daily basis. During this time, the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance (AMA) staff has been visiting local schools, providing lectures to youth and educating the community on the efforts and dedication of EMS practitioners. In addition, a profile of the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance EMS staff has been distributed to inform community on the background of these individuals who provide security and relief during chaotic and challenging situations.

As EMS Week is being celebrated, the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance is pleased to announce to the community of the recent purchase of a new ambulance unit. These efforts have been ongoing, as the acquisition of the unit has taken over 7 months to obtain; however, staff is excited to inform the community that this new unit will soon be operational and ready to serve Akwesasronon!

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is thankful that this unit was purchased and will be able to provide community members with an even-higher level of care. MCA would like to thank the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) for their financial contribution of $45,150 to help pay for the purchase of the new unit.

During this time, MCA and SRMT are focusing on community health, needs and services. They identify the safety of the community as the number one priority and both are moving forward with the best interest of the community in mind.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance would also like to recognize and thank the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) and Tribal Police Department for their continuing support for the AMA.

Nia:wen to all EMS personnel. Every day, these individuals are called upon to do work that only a select few can do.
