Tribe Announces Availability of Winter Heating Assistance

AKWESASNE – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has authorized an allotment of funds to provide heating assistance to tribal households during the winter season. Applications are being taken now, with fuel allocation to commence on Tsiothorhkó:wa/January 04, 2017 to eligible households residing within the Tribes designated service area who have completed a 2017 assistance application.

For Tribal members to be eligible for the fuel allotment program, The member must;

1)Provide SRMT Tribal Identification Card,

2)Reside within the SRMT jurisdiction and the designated 15-mile radius of the SRMT

3)The applicant must be the individual responsible for the payment of the householdsheating source account and must utilize a SRMT licensed Home Heating Dealer or Vendor.

4)Two verifications of residency; (1) must be Electric supplier and any other invoice

5)Know or provide heating account information

Eligible Tribal members 60 years of age and up are eligible for up to $1000.00 (U.S.).

Eligible Tribal members less than 60 years of age are eligible for up to $600.00 (U.S.).

Applications may be completed at the Compliance Department located in the Community Building at 412 State Rt. 37 from Monday, Kentenhkó:wa/November 28, 2016 until Friday, Tsiothóhrha/December 23, 2016 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“We are proud that we can continue to help more than 1,465 households purchase fuel oil, kerosene, propane or other heat products for the winter season,” said Compliance Director Elliott Lazore. Lazore noted, “It is a heating program that is continuing to be offered to all eligible households through the Akwesasne Community Partnership Fund, in cooperation with the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort and our community’s tribally-licensed vendors.”
