Tribe’s EOC Reports Zero New COVID-19 Cases: 2 Total Active

May 17, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 today however, two (2) active cases remain in the southern portion of Akwesasne. The two (2) active cases is lowest number reported in two months. We are pleased that three (3) relatives have been released from isolation, but four (4) family members and friends still remain in quarantine, which is also the lowest reported since March 17th. The low case numbers are encouraging, but we must keep doing our part to protect each other by getting vaccinated when you have the opportunity.

MASK DIRECTIVE REMAINS IN EFFECT

The Emergency Operations Center is reminding community members and guests that despite NYS and the CDC easing its guidance on mask wearing, the EOC’s mask directive remains in effect within the Tribe’s jurisdiction. Individuals are still required to wear a mask in all public places, businesses, and other locations where maintaining a safe social distance of six (6) feet is not possible.

The mask or face covering can be a scarf, bandana, or other cloth material however, it must be worn properly at all times. A mask covering should cover the mouth AND the nose, as both body parts are connected to the same respiratory system. Masks must be worn prior to entering an establishment and is required for all residents, guests, and vendors within the southern portion of Akwesasne.

VACCINATIONS BUILD COMMUNITY IMMUNITY

Please get vaccinated when you have the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Being vaccinated protects yourself, your family members, and members of our community who cannot receive the vaccine due to their age or health condition. The pandemic is not over, but the sooner that the majority of community members are vaccinated the sooner we will see an easing of safety protocols and the resumption of community events and activities.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
