AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environment Division and Compliance Department have scheduled a consultation meeting for Tuesday, Kenténha/October 24th to present the proposed SRMT Used Oil Regulations. The meeting is intended to discuss and receive feedback on the draft regulations prior to the comment period deadline of Monday, Kentenhkó:wa/November 6th.
The draft regulations were developed to manage used oil and ensure the protection of public health by reducing unnecessary exposure. The regulations propose to establish standards for the proper handling, storage, disposal, and cleanup for this solid waste. The Used Oil Regulations apply to commercial auto repair shops, used oil collection facilities and include exemption criteria for the “Do-It-Yourselfers.”
The consultation meeting has been scheduled to present the regulations and to share efforts to encourage recycling and prevent pollution. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Kenténha/October 24th beginning at 5:00pm for all tribal members to participate. It will be held in the first-floor meeting room at the Ionkwakiohkwaronon Tribal Administration Building.
Tribal members who want to participate in-person at the Tribal Administration Building do not need to register however, advance registration is required to join virtually. Members can join the October 24th consultation meeting by registering at https://rb.gy/ar8sy.
