Consultation Meetings Scheduled for Proposed Used Oil Regulations

AKWESASNE — (Tsiothóhrha/December 5, 2023) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environment Division and Compliance Department have scheduled two community consultation meetings to present the proposed SRMT Used Oil Regulations. The draft regulations were developed to manage used oil and ensure the protection of public health by reducing unnecessary exposure. The regulations propose to establish standards for the proper handling, storage, disposal, and cleanup for this solid waste. The Used Oil Regulations apply to commercial auto repair shops, used oil collection facilities and include exemption criteria for the “Do-It-Yourselfers.”

These meetings are intended to present the highlights of the proposed Tribal Used oil Regulations and to take questions regarding its content and application. Both meetings will be held in the first-floor boardroom at Ionkwakiohkwaróron during the following times:

  • Tuesday, Tsiothóhrha/December 12th from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Tsiothóhrha/December 19th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Tribal members who want to participate in-person at the Tribal Administration Building do not need to register however, advance registration is required to join virtually by going to https://bit.ly/3uIlsSm.

Tribal members may also request a copy of the proposed regulations from the Tribal Clerk’s Office, Office of the General Counsel, or at the main reception desk at the Tribal Administration Building.
