The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Election Board announced a referendum vote will be held to approve amendments to the Election and Referendum Ordinance. Tribal voters will be able to cast their vote on the proposed changes on Saturday, Ohiarí:ha/June 1, 2024. Voting will take place at the same time of the annual Tribal Election.
In accordance with TCR 2024-12 signed on Enniskó:wa/March, 2024, tribal voters will be presented with the following referendum questions:
1. “Do you approve of eliminating the requirement of having people present at caucus to accept nomination?”
2. “Do you approve of having a set date for the annual caucus being the third Saturday in April?”
3. “Do you approve of eliminating write-in candidates?”
Only if you voted yes above, please answer the following:
4. “If there is only one candidate who is nominated and qualified should that person be declared the Acclaimed winner without voting? This person would be vetted to ensure they met the requirements of the nominated position, but whose name would not appear on the ballot?”
