Tribal Solid Waste Management Code Available for Public Comment

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environment Division announced that an updated Solid Waste Management Code (Code) is now available for public comment. The Environment Division is entrusted to protect the land, air, water, vegetation and animal life for the future generations from the detrimental effects of improper management of solid waste. To accomplish this task, the following updates are being proposed:

  • Defined duties of the Compliance Department to investigate credible complaints and undertake enforcement action(s).
  • Updated penalties for non-compliance with Code.
  • Added operational requirements for the SRMT Solid Waste Transfer Station.

A copy of the Tribal Solid Waste Management Code is available to view at the Tribe’s Environment Division located at 449 Frogtown Road between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The document is also accessible through the Tribe’s website at www.srmt-nsn.gov.

The deadline for submitting comments on the proposed Tribal Solid Waste Management Code is Friday, Enníska/February 2, 2020 and should be directed to Lisa Furnace, Solid Waste Program Manager.
