On Ohiarí:ha/June 4, 2018 the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe continued its support for the Ohero:kon “Under the Husk” Rites of Passage with its fourth annual donation of $20,000 from the SRMT Community Partnership Fund. The contribution represents the Tribe’s ongoing efforts to help strengthen Mohawk culture and identity, which is a universal principle identified in its 10-Year Strategic Plan “Working Together Today to Build a Better Tomorrow.” Ohero:kon is a four-year traditional rites of passage ceremony that has been revived to help adolescents transition into adulthood by strengthening them spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Participating in the check presentation were (from left) SRMT Assistant Executive Director Starr Thomas, Tribal Sub-Chief Agnes “Sweets” Jacobs, Ohero:kon participant Tsiehente Herne, Ohero:kon Auntie Jonel Beauvais, Ohero:kon participant Tsiotenhariio Herne and SRMT Executive Director Tsiorasa Barreiro.
