Summary:  Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system. Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. May monitor and test Web site performance to ensure Web sites operate correctly and without interruption. Assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software. Administer network security measures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

  • Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
  • Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software.
  • Coordinate with vendors and with personnel to facilitate purchases.
  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware, business and networking software and operating system software.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.
  • Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
  • Implement and provide technical support for voice services and equipment, such as voice mail system, and telecom system.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records.
  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
  • Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, and implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies.
  • Train users and promote security awareness to ensure system security and to improve server and network efficiency.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in computer related field. 

OR 

  • Associates degree, AND
    • Three years related experience and/or training. 

OR 

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Cybersecurity awareness

Reasoning Ability: Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
