Tribe Presents Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget

Nov 20, 2017

AKWESASNE — In accordance with the Tribal Procedures Act ratified by tribal voters in a referendum held on Ohiarí:ha/June 1, 2013; the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is continuing to provide financial accountability to membership in the development and adoption of the Annual Tribal Budget. The Tribe convened a public meeting in the Community Building Lobby on Kentenhkó:wa/November 15, 2017 to present and explain the Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget.

Prior to the development of the Annual Tribal Budget, a community consultation meeting was held on Ohiarihkó:wa/July 13, 2017 for consultation to take place with tribal members as part of the budget process. The consultation session is an additional measure to the Tribal Procedures Act that provided an opportunity for membership to identify funding priorities and give input on ways to improve tribal revenues; including enhancing operating efficiencies and other considerations.

The feedback received from tribal members during the community consultation meeting contributed toward the Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget that was made available for tribal members to review. Beginning on Kentenhkó:wa/November 1, 2017; tribal members were encouraged to pick-up a copy of the draft budget prior to it being presented at the first public meeting on Kentenhkó:wa November 15th. The Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget continues to be available upon request from the Community Building’s main reception desk.

Following the Kentenhkó:wa/November 15th public meeting, tribal members now have fifteen (15) days to provide any written questions, comments or concerns about the Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget. As a result, tribal members have until 5:00 p.m. on Kentenhkó:wa/November 30th to submit any written comments about the draft budget. Comments may be dropped off at the Community Building or mailed to: Office of the Executive Director, 412 State Route 37, Akwesasne, NY 13655.

Upon receipt of any written comments, a second public meeting will be scheduled with membership for the Tribe to present responses—tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in the Community Building Lobby on Tsiothóhrha/December 7, 2017. Following the meeting, the Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget will be presented to the Tribal Council for approval and adoption by tribal council resolution during their weekly work session tentatively scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tsiothóhrha/December 13, 2017.
