Free Event Open to Public
The Akwesasne Lacrosse Hall of Fame (ALHOF) Members are pleased to present to the Community of Akwesasne an old time “Field Day” on June 21, 2012. This will be an educational and informative experience for all ages. This drug- and alcohol-free event will take place at Generations Park in Akwesasne from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will feature a number of Onkweho’nwe (Native Mohawk) speakers who will provide their insight on the following subjects, a depiction of the role the Mohawks played in the War of 1812, the reverence Mohawks hold for the Creator’s Game of Lacrosse and the true meaning of Wampum and the Silver Covenant Chain. This free event will allow people to test their lacrosse skills at various venues and witness a demonstration of the Choctaw “Stickball” game and maybe try it themselves.
At noon, there will be a traditional meal offered at a nominal fee with the proceeds going for the speedy recovery Carl Cook, ALHOF member, who was severely injured in an accident at his residence. On the grounds of Generations Park will be craft vendors and community service agents providing information of their programs. Drummers and singers may be present as well. Any individuals are invited to join together for this event. Please bring lawn chairs, children and a willingness to learn.
