SRMT Food Safety Certification Requirement to Take Effect August 1, 2025
AKWESASNE – (Ohiaríhko:wa/July 14, 2025) On Ohiaríhko:wa/July 9, 2025, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council signed a Tribal Council Resolution (TCR 2025-26) requiring food service providers and vendors to attain a valid Food Safety Certification through an accredited agency. The new requirement will take effect on Seskéha/August 1, 2025, and includes all food service providers, vendors for tribal-sponsored events, or at tribal properties.
TCR 2025-26 to “delegate authority and establish the need for food safety education certificates,” promotes health, safety, and responsibility for the well-being of community members within the Saint Regis Mohawk Reservation.
At the Ohiaríhko:wa/July 12, 2025, Tribal Monthly Meeting, SRMT Compliance Department Director Elliott Lazore presented to the community on the new requirements, shared a list of accredited food certification agencies, and the four pillars of food safety: cleanliness, cross-contamination prevention, safe cooking temperatures, and proper food storage temperatures. Per TCR 2025-26, Tribal Council has delegated authority to the SRMT Compliance Department to verify all food service providers or vendors’ food safety certificates within tribal properties.
The Compliance Department requests all food service providers and vendors to submit a copy of a valid food safety certificate from an accredited agency by the Seskéha/August 1, 2025, deadline.
