AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is reporting ONLY 47.2% of eligible individuals residing within the Tribe’s service area ages 12-years old or more are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. With 4,162 community members not protected against the virus; particularly the more contagious and severe Delta Variant; Health Services is continuing to urge all eligible community members to please get the COVID-19 Vaccine as soon as possible.
The tribal vaccination rate of 47.2% continues to fall further behind the neighboring counties of Franklin and St. Lawrence. As of August 26th, Franklin County reported 61% of eligible residents ages 12 years or more are now fully vaccinated, while St. Lawrence County reported 58.5% of eligible residents who have received their vaccination are now protected against the likelihood of severe illness due to COVID-19. (based on data from CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker as of August 26, 2021).
During the past week, an additional 50 individuals ages 18 years or more received the COVID-19 Vaccine, which included 26 first and 24 second doses. The 24 second doses, or Boosters, helped raise the percentage of eligible people 18 years or older to 50% who are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Thirteen (13) additional doses were administered to 12 to 15 years olds this week, while only seven (7) 16 and 17-year olds received the COVID-19 Vaccine. Health Services is asking more individuals in these age groups to please get the vaccine to help protect themselves. In a study issued by the CDC this week, unvaccinated individuals are 29 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19.
The COVID-19 Vaccine is safe, effective, and easy to obtain.
