AKWESASNE — (Onerahtohkó:wa/May 1, 2024) Verizon is embarking on a significant initiative to strengthen connectivity and communication infrastructure in the Akwesasne region. This effort aims to improve wireless cell service and high-speed data access to advance technological capabilities for residents and businesses. The work is in response to client inquiries within the area.
As part of this initiative, Verizon will install new fiber optic cable along NY-37, extending from Foy Eldred Road to Rooseveltown Road. The 9 miles of fiber cable installation will support the enhancement of wireless cell service and also facilitate high-speed data connectivity to companies situated within Akwesasne.
The project, scheduled to commence on May 6, 2024, will involve a thorough investigation of existing underground conduit paths, pole removal, and tree trimming to ensure the safe and efficient placement of the new fiber cable. With an estimated completion time frame of up to two months, Verizon expects to conduct daily visits to the work area and will strive to keep any disruption to the community to a minimum.
Verizon thanks the Akwesasne Mohawk community for their collaboration and support as they strive to provide more excellent digital connectivity.
