Summary:  Under the direction of the Student Enhancement Coordinator, the Akwesasne Research Center for Health (ARCH) Lead Resident Advisor is responsible for leading and guiding ARCH summer internship students through the High School Summer Research Internship program. The ARCH Mohawk Scholars Program engages high school youth in a series of learning opportunities focused on understanding and participating in biomedical and health research. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Meet with staff and students to discuss rules, roles, and expectations during the program.
  • Establish a working relationship with youth participants, fellow Resident Advisors, and the administrative staff of Roswell Park and the Student Enhancement Coordinator.
  • Must be able to drive a 12-passenger van, and willing to complete any training associated with this responsibility.
  • Be available to travel to Buffalo, NY, and stay on a college campus for the duration of the three-week program.
  • The Lead Resident Advisor will also carry out the development of activities for ARCH Mohawk Scholars while at the internship and be the contact person with Roswell Park and the Student Enhancement Coordinator.
  • Co-facilitate student activities with Student Enhancement Coordinator, including planning meetings, a three-week prep course, and summer internship programs.
  • Track time sheets for Resident Advisors’ schedule to ensure coverage for adult/student ratios, to maintain a 40-hour work week, and ensure time cards are signed off in ADP.
  • Responsible for personnel issues related to the job performance of staff.
  • Monitors Residents, Advisors, and chaperones/advises students throughout the program to address needs or concerns as they arise.
  • Update the Student Enhancement Coordinator daily of any needs or concerns regarding any issues related to student issues or maintenance of the vehicle.
  • Enforce university and residence hall rules and regulations
  • Work as part of the team to make sure that students are on schedule for internship activities.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead Resident Advisor shall carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable Tribal rules. Responsibilities also include monitoring Resident Advisors' schedule and time card; addressing complaints and resolving problems within the program.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • An associate’s degree (A.A.) or a Bachelor’s degree is preferred in the following areas: education, or other degree areas, (Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, OR related curriculum

Preferred 

  • Experience living in on-campus housing and working knowledge of university and residence hall policies and procedures is. 

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent people skills. A clean driving record and the ability to drive are a must. 

 

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
