Community Assistance Requested

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Environment Division is updating its spill response plans including the development of a Geographic Response Plan (GRP). The GRP identifies resources that can be used in the event of a spill affecting rivers and streams. Resources that would be used in responding to water borne spills include boom, absorbents, vehicles, boats and locations to place critical equipment.

The Environment Division is asking for the community’s help in identifying boat launches in and around Akwesasne that land owners are willing to provide access to allow materials, personnel and equipment to be launched from. If you have docking facilities and road access to them and are interested in cooperating with the Environment Division for spill response and planning please contact Les Benedict or Matt Thompson at (518) 358-5937 for further details.
