SRMT Reports Four Active COVID-19 Cases, One Potential Exposure

Nov 2, 2020

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center reports there are currently four (4) active cases and one (1) potential exposure of COVID-19 under the Tribe’s jurisdiction, which comprises the southern portion of the Akwesasne community. The active cases all involve infections that took place outside the community, while the potential exposure involves the Mohawk Assembly of God.

Any individual who attended a church service, clothing drive or other function involving the Mohawk Assembly of God, either at 7 Church Street in Akwesasne or elsewhere, within the past 14 days should monitor their symptoms, get tested for COVID-19, and follow protective measure: wear a mask, social distance, and wash your hands often.

Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services and Franklin County Public Health Department, who are facilitating patient monitoring, completed contact tracing for the active cases. No further information is available on the active cases to protect patient privacy.

The four (4) active cases makes 20 total positive cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction since the first one was reported on March 28, 2020. There are currently nine (9) individuals in quarantine or isolation, which includes the active cases.

The Tribe’s EOC reports that 2,137 negative test results have been received to date for COVID-19. This includes results of the tribal employee mandatory testing that took place in September 2020, as well as the four (4) community drive-thru clinics held last month.

Community drive-thru test collection resumes tomorrow at the former-IGA Building located at 850 Route 37 in Akwesasne. Test collection will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3rd, November 10th, and November 17th. All Akwesasne residents and non-member employees of local businesses and schools can receive a FREE test.

With the number of positive cases for COVID-19 continuing to increase within and around Akwesasne, the Tribe’s EOC is urging everyone to take protective measures to keep yourself, your family, and your community safe. The EOC also asks everyone to please be considerate and compassionate for those who have been infected, as it can happen to anyone.

Please remember that we’re all in this together, so do your part to keep Akwesasne safe. Niawen.
