The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Election Board Appeal Panel (“Appeal Panel”) received an appeal Ohiarí:ha/June 13, 2023, regarding the 2023 Annual Election along with the required filing fee. The Appeal Panel convened to review the appeal and dismissed it. The Appeal Panel deemed the appeal to be a procedural violation since it was based upon the status of a Write-in Candidate. The current Updated Election and Referendum Ordinance (TCR 2022-52) specifically outlines how to run as a Write-in Candidate. If a person fails to file a Statement of Write-in Candidacy any votes for that person should not be counted. In this case, there was no statement of Write-in Candidacy filed. The Appeal Panel then advised the Election Board of the appeal and of its dismissal.
