Summary: The Assistant Director of Education is responsible for implementing, organizing, managing, and coordinating under the PL 102-477 program under the Education Division.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be knowledgeable of procedures and policies governing the PL 102-477 program and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. Makes recommendations as needed for plan amendments and service delivery.
  • Provide a direct line of support and be able to manage matters relating to educational concerns on behalf of community members and/or clients.
  • Works in collaboration with the Director of Education to provide administrative support and supervision to the team members of the Education Division.
  • Work with Education Program Managers to ensure compliance with grant funding and assist in the oversight of program operations.
  • Develop relationships with key partners to promote educational, employment or training opportunities and attend meetings with project partners to develop scope of work/agreements or contracts.
  • Approve and or deny services under Education Division program budget including but not limited to vouchers, PAF's and all other financial requests from program staff.
  • Work closely with Director of Education and Managers on statistical, narrative and financial reports to funding agency — including but not limited to accurately capturing client program eligibility, participation and assessment.
  • Understand the TribeVue case management system and provide training and support to team members as necessary.
  • Conduct or arrange for ongoing technical training and workshops for staff.
  • Assist in tracking and approving staff leave requests and assist in hiring, evaluation and termination of staff.
  • May be required to attend meetings and or trainings for Director of Education.
  • Travel to regional and annual conferences to share information and collaborate with other Native programs.
  • Work with Education Director on program contracts, budgets and grants.
  • Provide advice and assistance with program fiscal allocation and budget preparation and periodically review operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs.
  • Consult with managers to ensure that budget requests are made in accordance with program guidelines and PL 102-477 eligibility and fiscal guidance.
  • Exhibits a friendly and courteous manner when dealing with our employees, fellow associates, parents and community members.
  • Establish, maintain effective, positive and healthy working relationships with others, including staff, family members and others who may be under distress or duress.
  • Will assist in maintaining a safe working place in the office environment.

Mandated Reporter: Must become a mandated reporter prior to having contact with children in a job-related capacity and maintain that status throughout employment. This includes completing any necessary training and adhering to all reporting obligations as defined by applicable laws and tribal policies. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Education shall carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable Tribal rules. Responsibilities also include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems within the Program.

Possession of a valid State Driver License in accordance with Fleet Policy.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, counseling, labor relations, human services or related field.
  • Minimum of Three (3) to five-(5) years in educational program administration.
  • Master’s Degree in education, counseling, labor relations, human services or related field is PREFERRED

 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Able to facilitate group presentations, discussions and workshops.
  • Must possess strong computer skills (i.e. Word, excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must possess strong oral, writing and communication skills.
  • Must possess strong financial knowledge of budgets and financial planning.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral. diagram, or schedule form. 

 

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
