SUMMARY: The Peer Support Specialist at our outpatient clinic provides compassionate, recovery-focused support to individuals facing mental health and/or substance use challenges. Using lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist fosters hope, empowerment, and connection, helping community members access resources, build resilience, and engage in wellness activities offered through the center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Offer one-on-one peer support to individuals in the outpatient clinic, drawing on personal recovery experience.
- Facilitate wellness workshops, and recovery-oriented activities within the center.
- Provide advocacy and education on recovery models with an emphasis on trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care and harm reduction.
- Participate in individual and group supervision to ensure quality service delivery and professional development.
- Help individuals navigate community resources, including housing, employment, education, and healthcare.
- Promote engagement in center programs and events that support mental health, sobriety, and social connection.
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and local service providers to ensure coordinated support.
- Advocate for peer needs and contribute to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment.
- Provide transportation services related to recovery focus appointments.
- Maintain accurate records of peer interactions and group activities while upholding confidentiality.
- Participate in ongoing training and supervision to enhance peer support skills.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS: There are no supervisory requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED and lived experience with addiction.
OR - 1 year experience in a mental health/addictions field with lived addictions experience preferred
OTHER SKILLS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Personal sustained experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or willingness to obtain certification within six months, this will be completed by Office of Mental Health and Office of Addiction Services and Supports curriculums.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a diverse, community-based environment.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
