Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council Opposes Unlicensed Gaming Activities

Jun 3, 2011

The Akwesasne Territory has only two legal gaming establishments: the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and the Mohawk Bingo Palace. Any gaming establishment not licensed by
the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Gaming Commission would operate illegally under Tribal law, Federal law and State law.

Any unlicensed gaming establishment is unregulated, unsupervised and operated without the benefit of any tribal oversight. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Gaming Commission cannot guarantee the safety of any patron, the fairness of any game or the integrity of any game at any unlicensed gaming facility.

In the past, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Gaming Commission ordered the closure of the unlicensed gaming facilities. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe or the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Gaming Commission have NOT licensed or authorized any gaming establishments other than the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and the Mohawk Bingo Palace. Unlicensed gaming facilities jeopardize the Tribe’s ability to provide needed services to the community through gaming revenues.
