Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Investigate Fatal Accident

On October 26, 2011 at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department responded to a report of a fatal motor vehicle accident on North Road located in the southern portion of Akwesasne. Assistance was provided by the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, the Mohawk Council Ambulance service, the Seaway Valley Ambulance service and the Bombay Fire and Rescue squad. Vehicle operator Amber Lynn Aliff was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased due to her injuries. Passenger Dakota Benedict, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Passenger Sidney Oakes was transported to the Massena Memorial Hospital with severe injuries and was later transported to the Burlington Hospital. She is listed as being in critical but stable condition. All three victims are from Akwesasne.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council extends its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
