Tribal Election Board Certifies Official Referendum Results

May 13, 2011

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe held a referendum on Saturday, April 30, 2011 to consider approval of the casino expansion project. The voters considered the question, “Do you support the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s expansion project at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino?”

The certification and announcement process was initially delayed due to two (2) appeals that were filed. After careful review, the Election Board determined that there were not sufficient grounds to constitute an invalid referendum. Therefore, the official results are as follows; 391 yes, 286 no, and 7 voided ballots.
