Tribal Closures Due to Water Main Break

Aug 27, 2014

A break in the water main near the Bear’s Den Restaurant has caused the Tribe to close the Tribal facilities located in Akwesasne between the American Legion and Library Road along State Route 37. These include all programs located at the Community Building and Health Services, Adult and Child Protective Services, Family Support, the Akwesasne Group Home and the Early Childhood Development Child Care program. Parents need to pick up their children as a soon as possible.

As a precaution, all buildings and residences on the Tribe’s waterline system should boil water before eating, drinking or washing. Bring water to a FULL ROLLING BOIL for 1 MINUTE, then allow the water to COOL BEFORE USE. The boil water notice will remain in effect for the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Tribe’s Water Department hopes repairs will be completed by 7:00 p.m. this evening. Please stay tuned to CKON 97.3 and the Tribe’s Facebook page for the latest updates on closures and information on when the boil water notice has been lifted. You can contact the Tribe’s Water Department at 518-358-4205 or 518-358-6159 for questions or concerns.
