Sep 14, 2016

Community Comments Being Accepted Until October 13th

Akwesasne, NY – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Child Support Enforcement Unit has made a recommendation to the Tribal Council to amend the Family Support Act, which was adopted on Kentenhko:wa/November 5, 2013 by Tribal Council Resolution #2013-57. It has recommended that certain amendments be made to the Family Support Act to ensure the basic health and financial needs of Mohawk children are met in a timely and efficient manner when parents no longer live together. This requires rescinding TCR #2013-57 and adopting the Amended Family Support Act dated Seskeha/August 19, 2016.

In accordance with the Tribal Procedures Act, adopted by tribal voters in a referendum held on Ohiarí:ha/June 1, 2013; a majority of tribal chiefs have voted to present the amendments to the membership for comment. As a result, tribal members have 30-day period ending on October 13, 2016 to submit written comments to the Office of the Tribal Clerk on the Amended Family Support Act.

Individuals may obtain a copy of the Amended Family Support Act from the Akwesasne Library and the Tribal Clerk’s Office located at the Community Building. It is also available to download from the Tribe’s website at www.srmt-nsn.gov.
