Five Positions Open for Nominations

Akwesasne, NY — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Election Board will be holding the annual Tribal Caucus on Saturday, Onerahtohkó:wa/ May 7, 2016. There are five (5) positions open: one (1) Tribal Chief, one (1) Tribal Sub-Chief, one (1) Tribal Court Chief Judge, and two (2) Traffic Court Judges.

The caucus will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Tribal Community Building, the floor will be opened for nominations for each respective position. Nominees can accept or refuse the nomination at the time of the Caucus, or by the close of business on Wednesday, May 11th. The ‘un-official’ list of all nominees will be posted by Friday, May 13th.

In accordance with the Election and Referendum Ordinance (amended April 2, 2013), nominators must be an eligible voter and must: 1) be at least eighteen (18) years of age, 2) be an enrolled member of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, 3) reside in the United States or in the U.S. portion of Akwesasne for at least six months immediately prior to the election and, 4) have their name on the most current eligible voters list.

The Tribal Election will be held from 9:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Ohiarí:ha/June 4, 2016 in the Community Building Lobby.
