Tribal Police Arrest Moffitt, Dunkelberg

Akwesasne, New York — On July 12, 2016 the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department obtained warrants of arrest from Bombay Town Court for Kimberly A. Moffitt, 45, and for Melissa S. Dunkelberg, 33, both of Massena, New York. The warrants were a result of a law enforcement investigation into child endangerment and harassment allegations against both women during their employment at the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP). The investigation was conducted with the cooperation from the ECDP program and in collaboration with the New York State Office of Child and Family Services and their child care licenser.

On the evening of July 12th, both women were arrested and charged; Moffitt was charged with 7 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment 2nd Degree, Dunkelberg was charged with 12 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and 1 count of Harassment 2nd Degree. Both were processed at the Tribal Police Department then arraigned at Bombay Town Court. Moffitt was released by the Bombay Town Court on her own recognizance and Dunkelberg was released to the supervision of probation by the court. Both face further court proceedings.

The law enforcement investigation is still active and will not be considered closed until it has reached conclusion in Bombay Town Court. No further information is available at this time.
