Tribe’s Elders Benefit Pilot Program Receives First Applicant

May 16, 2018

On Onerahtohkó:wa/May 12, 2018, Saint Regis Mohawk Senior Club President and Elders Benefit Working Group Member Lois Thomas became the first applicant (#0001) for the Elders Benefit Pilot Program, a new tribal program created to provide financial assistance to tribal elders. Beginning on Ohiarihkó:wa/July 15th, tribal elders 68-years old or more who reside in or within the 15-radius of the Tribe’s jurisdiction will receive quarterly disbursements of $600 ($200 each month). Funding for the new pilot program is from new revenue sources that do not affect services that tribal members and the overall community currently receive. To be eligible, tribal elders need to complete an application in-person with the Tribe’s Compliance Department, located in the Community Building at 412 State Route 37 in Akwesasne, New York. Those requiring assistance can arrange for a home visit to apply by calling (518) 358-2272. The deadline to submit an application for the first disbursement of $600 is Ohiarí:ha/June 12th.
