Akwesasne Burn Ban Remains in Effect

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is reminding individuals that a burn ban remains in effect during the State of Emergency. A reminder is being issued due to the lack of precipitation, which has contributed to extremely dry conditions and the possibility of uncontrolled fires. Please refrain from starting large, open fires; fires in a burning barrel; or bonfires that contain leaves, grass, or brush. An open fire could potentially start a wildfire, which would destroy personal property and require an emergency response from the HAVFD. It is acceptable for individuals to make small fires in contained fire pits, such as the metal or stone fire pits you can purchase at a store. We ask that you please be respectful of this burn ban and recognize that it is being done to keep the community safe.
