Second Active COVID-19 Case Reported in Akwesasne

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is providing public notification of a second active case of COVID-19 in the community of Akwesasne. The one new case involves a community member who recently traveled off territory and exhibited symptoms upon their return to Akwesasne.

Having symptoms associated with COVID-19, an Abbott ID Now test was conducted at the Tribe’s Health Services to confirm the presence of the coronavirus. Contact tracing was completed through the coordination of Health Services and the Franklin County Public Health Department. No further information is being made available to protect patient privacy.

With the number of active cases increasing in and around Akwesasne, the Tribe’s EOC is continuing to urge individuals to get tested for COVID-19. If an individual is displaying symptoms, rapid testing is available at Health Services by calling (518) 358-3141. Do not travel to the clinic without calling ahead of time.

Individuals who are not exhibiting symptom, but may be asymptomatic with the virus, can receive a test through the following means:

  • A drive-thru collection clinic will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the former-IGA Building on November 3rd, November 10th and November 17th.
  • Individuals can schedule their own test by contacting Massena Hospital at (315) 769-4321 or Mountain Medical Services at (518) 521-3322.

COVID-19 testing through either of the above means is FREE for all Akwesasne residents and employees of local businesses and school districts. Individuals who received a prior test are eligible to be retested.
