SRMT Reports 3 New COVID-19 Cases, 22 Total Active

Nov 18, 2020

AKWESASNE --- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) announced that three (3) new cases of COVID-19 were reported today — making twenty-two (22) total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. The new cases make 60 total positive cases that have been reported since the first case was confirmed in Akwesasne on March 28, 2020.

Monday, November 16th marked eight (8) months since a State of Emergency was declared in response to the global public health crisis. With Thanksgiving taking place next week, the EOC is reminding individuals that we are not “out of the woods” yet and we each need to do our part to stop further spread of the virus from person-to-person transmissions.

Thanksgiving dinner is a much-anticipated event with family and friends, but due to COVID-19 it greatly increases the risk of spreading or contracting the virus. The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year is to limit the dinner to only members of your immediate household. If you plan to enjoy the holiday meal with members of other households, here are some ideas to make it safe for everyone.

  • Host a virtual Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends using ZOOM, Skype, or other social meeting platform;
  • Arrange a potluck-style Thanksgiving dinner and make arrangements to share dishes for everyone to enjoy at their own household;
  • Or, postpone your Thanksgiving dinner until it is safe to resume in-person gatherings, as giving thanks is done every day;
  • For more ideas and safety recommendations, please see the U.S. Center for Disease Control’s guidance on “Celebrating Thanksgiving” at www.cdc.gov.

For any Akwesasne resident and non-member employees of local businesses and schools seeking a FREE COVID-19 test, please contact Mountain Medical Services at (518) 521-3322 in Malone or (315) 705-0700 in Massena. Individuals must call ahead to schedule an appointment — do not drive to test site without an appointment. Please bring identification.

If you have a non-medical emergency matter or require essential items, please call the Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019.
