SRMT Reports No New Active Cases, Remains at 20 Total Active

Nov 10, 2020

AKWESASNE --- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center announced that no new active cases have been reported today—keeping the total number of positive cases at 20 under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. No new cases are a much-needed relief from the outbreak the community has seen in the past week, but community members are asked to remain vigilant, as there remains a high-risk of ongoing community transmissions.

There are still twenty (20) total positive cases in isolation, as well as more than 100 community members in quarantine at home. Some include tribal members who live off-territory but have close connections to the Akwesasne community through work or family. These do not include cases being reported by the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.

The EOC is asking everyone to be kind and wish everyone who has been impacted by COVID-19 a safe and speedy recovery. The coronavirus is everywhere and can be transmitted at any time to anyone. As a result, please take precautions and practice all recommended safety protocols.

If you have been instructed to stay at home to isolate or quarantine, please stay at home. A public health official will contact you for a wellness check each day and to let you know when you’re released. Do not leave your home until you are officially released.

With the safety measures announced on Friday, November 6th, the EOC is reminding everyone to avoid social gatherings in uncontrolled environments. These include functions at private residences that do not maintain a log of guests and contact information, no mask requirement, no temperature checks, or no enforcement of social distancing.

Due to the unprecedented community spread, it is also highly recommended that individuals do not gather with others from different households. With American Thanksgiving two weeks away, gatherings should only include members of the same household.

As a reminder, Akwesasne residents and non-member employees of local businesses and schools may schedule a free COVID-19 test by contacting Massena Hospital at (315) 769-4321, or Mountain Medical Services at (518) 521-3322 in Malone or (315) 705-0700 in Massena.

Our community is all in this together and it will take all of us following all the recommended safety protocols to ensure we all remain healthy and safe.
