Tribe’s EOC Expands Travel Radius to 200 miles

Ottawa and Montreal excluded, Casino patrons limited to 100 miles

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is continuing to take reasonable and appropriate measures in response to COVID-19. Effective today, the non-essential travel radius for residents of Akwesasne’s southern portion and those subject to the Tribe’s jurisdiction has expanded to 200 miles (320 kilometers) in both the United States and Canada, with the exception of Ottawa and Montreal due to increased infections. Patrons of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort are restricted to the previous travel radius of 100 miles (160 kilometers).

The Tribe’s EOC, in conjunction with the Compliance Department, also announced that on-premise alcohol sales is permitted when accompanied with a dine-in meal at SRMT licensed restaurants between the hours of 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 10:00 p.m.

Individuals who travel outside of the radius for non-essential reasons are required to self-quarantine at home for 14 days. Please monitor your symptoms and do not travel in the community. Common symptoms include a sustained fever of 100.4 degrees or more, difficulty breathing or cough, amongst other indicators. For a list of symptoms, please visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov.

Akwesasne residents and employees of local businesses are encouraged to receive a COVID-19 test by contacting Massena Hospital at (315) 769-4321 or Mountain Medical Services at (518) 521-3322. The test is FREE, but please bring a tribal membership card or employee identification card, Band Card, or Nation Red Card to the testing site and state you are an Akwesasne resident or employee.

The EOC asks individuals to please be respectful of all protective measures being prescribed, as it is intended to keep the community safe. COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to public health, so wear a mask in public places, practice social distancing, wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds with warm water, and refrain from any unnecessary travel beyond the travel radius.
