Tribe’s EOC Reports Fourth Case of COVID-19

May 28, 2020

Onerahtohkó:wa/May 28, 2020 — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) received notification today from the Tribe’s Health Services of a fourth positive case of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) in Akwesasne. Health Services notified the EOC that the confirmed case involves a community member, who is currently in isolation at home and receiving follow-up care.

Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is investigating the individual’s case to determine exposure and those who may have been in recent contact. No additional information about the individual is being released at this time due to patient privacy laws.

Health Services will be doing contact tracing and notifying anyone who was in direct contact during the individual’s infectious stage. Those who are notified of possible exposure are asked to please follow all the protective measures prescribed; including staying home and not traveling in the community, monitoring symptoms several times a day, and refraining from having visitors.

The EOC is stressing the importance for everyone to continue practicing social distancing by staying at least 6 feet from others, washing your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, and to wear a mask in public when social distancing is not possible. These are important measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the community.

For those returning to Akwesasne from outside of the community’s 50-mile radius, the EOC is reminding them of the requirement to self-quarantine for 14 days and monitoring their symptoms. Please place the community’s health and safety as a priority, particularly those who are most vulnerable — our elders and those with underlying medical conditions.

Symptoms associated with COVD-19 include a sustained temperature reading of 100.4 degrees or more, coughing, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing. If you have these symptoms, please call the Tribe’s Medical Clinic at (518) 358-3141 Ext. 7130. Remember to call first.

It is important for community members to please remain vigilant and not let their guard down, while our health professionals and other frontline staff are continuing their efforts to keep all of us healthy and safe.

If you have an emergency matter or require essential items, please call the Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019.
