Tribe’s EOC Reports Positive COVID-19 Case in Akwesasne

Oct 27, 2020

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is providing public notification of a positive case of COVID-19 in the community of Akwesasne. Franklin County Public Health Department and the Tribe’s Health Services have completed contact tracing, with no additional information being made available to protect patient privacy.

With the number of active cases increasing around Akwesasne, the Tribe’s EOC is continuing to urge individuals to practice protective measures issued by public health agencies. Please wear a mask in public places, practice social distancing, and wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.

Individuals should also monitor symptoms and contact their health provider if you develop symptoms; such as a fever, shortness of breath, cough, and fatigue or muscle aches. The coronavirus is similar to the seasonal flu, so it is more important than ever before for individuals to receive their flu vaccinations.

It is also important for everyone to get a COVID-19 test, as asymptomatic individuals can transmit the virus without exhibiting symptoms. Know for sure and get tested today to keep you, your family, and your community healthy and safe.

Akwesasne residents and employees of local businesses and school districts can schedule a FREE COVID-19 test by contacting the Massena Hospital at (315) 769-4321 or Mountain Medical Services at (518) 521-3322.

Staff from Mountain Medical will also be at the former-IGA Building to collect samples for testing from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following Tuesdays beginning next week: November 3rd, November 10th, November 17th

For more information about COVID-19 testing, contact Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services at (518) 358-3141 or the Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019.
