Aug 9, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center, in coordination with Health Services, is reporting one (1) new case of COVID-19 -- making seven (7) total active cases in Akwesasne’s southern portion. Fourteen (14) family members and friends have been released from quarantine however, six (6) individuals remain at home and following public health guidance.

Seven (7) total active cases is the largest number reported since early-May and indicates that COVID-19 is still lingering and continues to pose a significant public health risk. As a result, the EOC and Health Services continues to urge all individuals to please get vaccinated, wash your hands, practice social distancing, and wear a mask if you are not vaccinated in all public indoor places.

During the August 2021 Monthly Tribal Meeting, SRMT Medical Director Dr. Benson Kelly shared, “The Delta Variant is affecting children and they are not eligible for vaccines, so they need us, as adults and those over the age of 12, to step up and get vaccinated. The vaccine is the most effective weapon we have to fight the Delta Variant. It is safe and it works.”
