Tribe’s EOC Reports 1 New COVID-19 Case: 14 Quarantined

Apr 14, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting one (1) new case of COVID-19 today — making eleven (11) total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. One (1) community member was released from isolation and contact tracing has resulted in fourteen (14) family members and friends in quarantine. We wish them a safe recovery and ask everyone to please continue placing the community’s health as a priority by following all safety protocols.

Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services estimates the Tribe’s current vaccination rate at 43.8%, which includes tribal members who reside in Akwesasne’s southern portion or within the Tribe’s 15-mile service area in the United States. They report 3,771 members have received at least one dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, which are the only vaccines being administered. This figure does not include northern residents or non-members who attended a vaccine clinic conducted by Health Services.

Health Services is holding a COVID-19 Walk-in Vaccine Clinic tomorrow on Thursday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Noon), or until supplies last, at the former-IGA Building located at 850 State Route 37 in Akwesasne, NY. The walk-in vaccine clinics are open to all individuals 18-years or older who are interested in receiving the Moderna vaccine.

A COVID-19 Walk-in Vaccine Clinic will be held on Friday, April 16th for individuals ages 16 and 17-years old who are interested in receiving the Pfizer vaccine. The walk-in clinic will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the former-IGA Building. A parent or guardian must be present to get vaccinated.

Individuals who reside in Canada and have a social or economic connection to Akwesasne are eligible to receive a vaccination by appointment only. Canadian residents need to call Katrina Jacobs, Office of Emergency Management and Safety, at (518) 358-2272 extension 2210 for border crossing requirements.

All individuals who are scheduled to receive their second shot (or Booster) are urged to please attend your appointment — including those that are scheduled on Saturdays. Once the vaccine container is opened, the doses has a limited time to be administered. When they are not used, the vaccine is wasted and it risks the ability of our community to receive a sufficient number of doses in the future.

For any questions about the Tribe’s vaccination process, please call Saint Regis Mohawk Health Service’s new direct line at (518) 333-0230. Tribal members are asked to call and report vaccinations they may have received at vaccine clinics away from Akwesasne.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
