Tribe’s EOC Reports 2 New COVID-19 Cases, 42 Quarantined

Jan 7, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center announced two (2) new positive cases of COVID-19 today, which makes fourteen (14) total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. We are pleased that one (1) Akwesasne relative successfully resolved since yesterday, with 42 family and friends in isolation or quarantine.

Community drive-thru testing resumed today, with 150 PCR COVID-19 Test collections conducted at the former-IGA Building by Mountain Medical Urgent Care. An additional 12 Rapid Tests for symptomatic individuals was done at the tribal clinic—for 162 total tests today.

The EOC extends appreciation to community members for their cooperation and assistance with the process of contact tracing, as well as to those individuals who remain in quarantine at home. With many public health agencies doing their best responding to the recent increase in cases, the support of community members is needed in answering the call, being forthcoming with information, and following the guidance provided by public health officials.

Community members are asked to please listen to CKON 97.3fm next Tuesday, January 12th at 10:15 a.m., as Health Services Director Michael Cook and Clinical Director Dr. Benson Kelly share information on the Moderna vaccine. They will discuss the initial rollout of the first 200 doses of the vaccine in accordance with CDC’s recommended guidelines, as well as the timeframe and notification process for future vaccinations.

Additional COVID-19 drive-thru test collection clinics have been scheduled for January 12th, 13th, 19th and 26th beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the former-IGA Building.
