Tribe’s EOC Reports 3 New COVID-19 Case, 13 Total Cases

Jan 6, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center announced three (3) new positive cases of COVID-19 today, which makes thirteen (13) total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. The number of total cases include community members who reside off-territory; but have a strong connection to Akwesasne for work, school, or family.

During for the past nine (9) months, the Tribe’s EOC has monitored and reported the number of cases, isolations and quarantines, as well as other pertinent information in coordination with the Tribe’s Health Services and County Public Health Departments. With the increasing number of cases in and around Akwesasne, health facilities and agencies are now being pressed to keep pace with the recent surge.

With the recent surge in cases, it has become even more important than ever for individuals to please take personal responsibility for their own protective measures. Health facilities that have ICU beds are at or near capacity and the amount of contact tracing that is required is staggering—delaying the time to provide exposure notification and quarantine orders.

We are not out of the woods and it may get worse before it gets better, as incidences of uncontrolled gatherings during New Year’s begin to be reported. Please follow all the safety measures being provided, but more importantly, please limit your interactions to only those who reside in the same household as yourself. This is a vital step to prevent a new and even more contagious strain of the coronavirus from reaching our community.

As a reminder, Health Services has begun administering 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine in accordance with CDC’s recommended guidelines; which included elders, healthcare and other frontline workers. Another limited supply of doses is expected and groups are being prioritized. To have your name added to the list, please call (518) 333-0230 and in time you will be contacted to be vaccinated.

The EOC and Health Services announced that additional COVID-19 drive-thru testing clinics have been scheduled for January 7th, 12th, 13th, 19th and 26th beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the former-IGA Building. In the meantime, community members and Akwesasne employees may schedule an appointment to receive a FREE test by contacting Mountain Medical Urgent Care in Malone at (518) 521-3322 or Mountain Medical Urgent Care in Massena at (315) 705-0700.

For anyone seeking to obtain their COVID-19 results for a test conducted by Health Services or its mass testing providers, please call the clinic’s new direct line at (518) 333-0230.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

If you require emergency food supplies or other essential items, please contact the Family Advocate’s Office at (518) 358-3021.
