Tribe’s EOC Reports 4 New COVID-19 Cases: 11 Total Active

Feb 10, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting four (4) new cases of COVID-19 today — making eleven (11) total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. We are sad to report that two (2) relatives who resolved yesterday have developed symptoms and required hospitalization. There are ten (10) family members and friends in quarantine at home following guidance from public health officials. Please extend them all kindness and compassion.

The information from Public Health that two community members, who were on the path to recovery and now hospitalized, shows that not everyone makes a complication-free recovery. For some who become positive for COVID-19, there are lingering symptoms that last for weeks or even months; such as fatigue, shortness of breath, cough, and joint or chest pain. There are also lingering neurological problems; like headaches, dizziness, loss of smell or taste, and difficulty thinking or concentrating.

The EOC reports that since the first case was reported on March 28, 2020, there were 20 total positive cases until Halloween weekend. Since that time, there have been 147 Akwesasronon who have contracted the virus — primarily through uncontrolled gatherings during the holidays. It will be a few weeks before we see any new cases from Super Bowl gatherings, but we continue to urge individuals to remain vigilant, including for this weekend’s Daytona 500.

Please avoid uncontrolled gatherings and stay in your household bubble, as well as follow protective measures that were developed to keep us all safe. Wear your mask in public places. Stay at least six (6) feet apart from others. Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
