Jun 3, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 in the southern portion of Akwesasne. One (1) active case reported yesterday has been transferred due to the individual’s residency — leaving none under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. While the COVID-19 Pandemic has kept us apart and has resulted in community events not taking place, such as our annual Memorial Day Parade — vaccinations offer us hope and moves us closer to ending the pandemic. Before we can get back to the moments we’ve missed with our families, friends, and other community members; we need everyone in our community to be safe and get vaccinated.

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective in preventing severe illnesses resulting from the coronavirus. Along with wearing a mask in public places, the vaccine adds one more layer of protection for you, your family, and your loved ones. Some key facts to keep in mind about the COVID-19 vaccines are:

  • All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are very effective at preventing the disease, with a 95% efficacy rate for Pfizer and 94.5% for Moderna;
  • The most common side effects are a slight pain in the arm where you got the shot, feeling tired, headache, body aches, chills, and fever; and
  • Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available — wearing masks, staying at least 6 feet apart from people who don’t live with you, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, washing your hands frequently, staying home if you are sick, and getting vaccinated.
