Jun 3, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 in the southern portion of Akwesasne. One (1) active case reported yesterday has been transferred due to the individual’s residency — leaving none under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. Three (3) family members and friends remain in quarantine at home and following guidance from public health. We ask that you please extend kindness to anyone who has been impacted by COVID-19.

While the COVID-19 Pandemic has kept us apart and has resulted in community events not taking place, such as our annual Memorial Day Parade — vaccinations offer us hope and moves us closer to ending the pandemic. Before we can get back to the moments we’ve missed with our families, friends, and other community members; we need everyone in our community to be safe and get vaccinated.

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective in preventing severe illnesses resulting from the coronavirus. Along with wearing a mask in public places, the vaccine adds one more layer of protection for you, your family, and your loved ones. Some key facts to keep in mind about the COVID-19 vaccines are:

  • All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are very effective at preventing the disease, with a 95% efficacy rate for Pfizer and 94.5% for Moderna;
  • The most common side effects are a slight pain in the arm where you got the shot, feeling tired, headache, body aches, chills, and fever; and
  • Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available — wearing masks, staying at least 6 feet apart from people who don’t live with you, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, washing your hands frequently, staying home if you are sick, and getting vaccinated.

We all have an important part to play in ending COVID-19, and you are key!
