SRMT Reports 71.4% Vaccination Rate: Relocates Vaccine Clinic

Feb 23, 2022

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services reported a 71.4% vaccination rate for eligible residents of the Akwesasne community; as of February 21, 2022. This includes individuals ages 5-years old or more who have received their initial two-shot series of a COVID-19 vaccine. There remain 1,971 individuals who are not fully vaccinated and at risk of being hospitalized, or possibly dying, from contracting the coronavirus. We urge them to please get vaccinated when you have the opportunity.

Though case counts and the availability of hospital beds are improving across New York State, we kindly remind individuals that our region continues to lead the State in the 7-day positivity rate. The NYS Department of Health reports the North Country Positivity Rate at 6.5%, as of February 22, 2021. In particular, Franklin County reported a 7.1% positivity rate, while St. Lawrence County reported 6.4%. Both are among the highest rates reported across all counties in the State.

For Akwesasne residents who choose to get vaccinated, they continue to be eligible to win $1,000 at each 5% vaccine milestone. With the current vaccination rate of 71.4%, the next milestone drawing will take place when we reach 75%. Five names will be drawn live on Akwesasne TV’s Facebook page and announced after consent is provided. To date, 25 residents have won $1,000 each for choosing to keep themselves, their loved ones, and the overall community safe from COVID-19.

With the majority of community members vaccinated and fewer numbers at the weekly vaccine clinic, Health Services will be relocating the Wednesday vaccine clinic to their main building at 404 State Route 37. Beginning on Wednesday, March 2nd individuals ages 5-years old or more can receive a COVID-19 vaccine between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. No appointment is needed.

On Friday, February 25th all tribal offices will be closed, including Health Services, so there will be no vaccination clinic.
