Tribe's Transfer Station Fee Updates

Jan 24, 2022

In our continued efforts to provide the best service possible, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) Solid Waste Management Program has found it necessary to increase Solid Waste Fees. Effective March 1, 2022, the increase reflects higher operating expenses over the past several years.

Tipping fees will be $165/ton, a total increase of $15/ton or $5/ton for each of the past three years, as the previous rate of $150 had been in place since 2019. Through much analysis, the increase was deemed necessary to ensure fair wages and benefits to employees and meet increased costs in supplies and fuel.

Mattresses must be charged a separate rate of $40 each, because of the cost to dispose of them through the recycling company located in Buffalo, NY. Vehicle rates and commercial hauler rates are listed on the website at: www.srmtenv.org, along with some other services such as dumpster/roll-off rentals with special pick-up services that can be scheduled for renovation projects.

It has also been necessary to increase the “Blue Bags” sold at: Speedway, Wild Bill’s or the Transfer Station. New prices will be $7.50/bag or $35 for a pack of five. Recycled materials are accepted at no cost to community members at the Transfer Station, 179 County Route 43. Private hauler rates for residential customers are approximately $50 per month.

The Solid Waste Management Program does not accept any liquid or chemical wastes at the Transfer Station. A Household Hazardous Waste Collection was held for community members in the summer of 2021 and will be scheduled by the end of summer 2023. We are also developing a map of locations where community members can drop off certain Household Hazardous Waste.

We thank each of our customers for utilizing the SRMT Transfer Station to keep our environment healthy. Please remember that the best way to keep waste management costs low is to REDUCE what you are using, REUSE materials or donate them to someone who could use them, RECYCLE items that can no longer be used, and always, RESPECT Mother Earth!

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the SRMT Transfer Station Team at (518) 358-4632.
