AKWESASNE – (Kentenhkó:wa/November 14, 2025) In accordance with the 2013 Tribal Procedures Act, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Clerk is providing notification to membership of a 30-day comment period on the proposed amendments to the Adult Use Cannabis Ordinance. Tribal members are encouraged to review the proposed amendments and submit comments by Tsiothóhrha/December 14, 2025. The proposed changes include a dissolution of the Cannabis Control Board; to permit a Cannabis licensee to use compliance with the Tribe’s Adult Use Cannabis Ordinance as a defense in a criminal action; and to permit the Cannabis Control Office to pursue civil enforcement.
The Adult Use Cannabis Ordinance was first adopted by Tribal Council Resolution 2021-33 and was later amended by TCRs 2022-17, 2023-05 and 2024-33. The current proposal seeks to amend it for the fourth time. A copy of the proposed amendments is available for membership to view on the Tribal Members Portal. Following the review of any submitted comments, the Tribal Council shall have at least thirty (30) calendar days to consider the comments received and create a final draft of the proposed legislation. Responses to any submitted comments shall be provided in the form a summary.
Once the final draft of the amendment is complete, the Tribal Clerk’s Office shall issue a Notice to membership that the legislation is being presented for adoption by Tribal Council Resolution.
