POSITION OVERVIEW
The Medical Director provides clinical leadership, strategic oversight, and direct patient care within Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Health Services. This role blends hands-on family medicine practice with responsibility for quality, provider leadership, care integration, and continuous improvement across outpatient medical services. The Medical Director supports a culturally responsive, patient-centered model of care serving the Akwesasne community.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES (APPROX. 50–60%)
• Provide comprehensive family medicine care across the lifespan
• Maintain a continuity panel of patients
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions
• Order diagnostic testing and prescribe medications
• Coordinate specialty referrals and ancillary care
• Practice team-based, patient-centered care
• Complete timely documentation in RPMS
MEDICAL LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION (APPROX. 40–50%)
• Provide clinical and administrative leadership to physicians, NPs, PAs, nursing, and support staff
• Oversee quality, safety, and evidence-based clinical standards
• Participate in strategic planning for medical services
• Lead or support continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in peer review and provider development
• Collaborate with executive leadership on operational priorities
MANDATED REPORTER: Must become a mandated reporter prior to having contact with children in a job-related capacity and maintain that status throughout employment. This includes completing any necessary training and adhering to all reporting obligations as defined by applicable laws and tribal policies
SUPERVISORY SCOPE
Oversight of Medical Clinic, School-Based Health Center, Chronic Care, and Diabetes Clinical Care programs.

- Commitment to culturally responsive, community-based care
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited medical school
- Eligible for unrestricted New York medical licensure
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine
PREFERRED
- Two (2) year’s Leadership or medical director experience in rural, Tribal, or underserved settings

Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
