Summary: The Staff Nurse is an integral part of the care team and a key contributor to delivering culturally competent, high-quality care that is compassionate, consistent and reliable for our patients, families, and the practices within the Medical Center. The incumbent is involved in direct patient care under the direction of a Nurse Supervisor, provides technical nursing care to patients in varying states of health and illness and performs clinical and administrative health care support services to patients and families according to knowledge, ability, and duties assigned.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Uphold the value and integrity of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Mission Statement.
- Practice in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act and perform all duties within the scope of practice appropriate to the employee's licensure (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse).
- Adhere to all Ethics and Compliance policies, HIPAA regulations, and patient confidentiality requirements while providing respectful, compassionate, and professional care in every patient interaction.
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care across the lifespan.
- Apply job knowledge and critical thinking to patient care.
- Be knowledgeable in, or willing to become proficient in, the operation and use of all medical equipment.
- Follow medical orders and administer medications in a satisfactory manner.
- Follow emergency protocol and follow through effectively with capability to respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Administer medications, treatments, injections, immunizations, and therapies according to provider orders, organizational policies, and scope of practice.
- Provide complete and accurate documentation in accordance with established protocols and communicate effectively through all systems utilized by Health Services.
- Obtain vital signs, collect health information, document chief complaints, and report significant findings to the supervising provider or Registered Nurse as appropriate.
- Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team to ensure referrals and follow-up services are completed.
- Demonstrates knowledge and awareness ofSafety and Infection Control Awareness.
- Assist Medical Providers with all procedures and treatments.
- Participate in rotations to become knowledgeable and skillful in all departments.
- May be required to alternate in all Health Services Facilities.
MANDATED REPORTER: Must become a mandated reporter prior to having contact with children in a job-related capacity and maintain that status throughout employment. This includes completing any necessary training and adhering to all reporting obligations as defined by applicable laws and tribal policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the role. Due to the highly sensitive nature of information handled within Health Services and frequent interaction with patients and staff, the incumbent must consistently maintain the highest level of professionalism and strict confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. Strong oral and written communication skills required; knowledge of Mohawk Language and traditions preferred. Flexibility in work schedule as variations may occur, and an occasional (4) four-hour Saturday will be required
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Registered Nurse (RN)
- Newly licensed Registered Nurse with a current New York State Registered Nurse license and a minimum of four (4) months of hospital experience;
Or
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program with a current New York State Registered Nurse license and a minimum of four (4) years of acute care hospital experience;
Or
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program with a current New York State Registered Nurse license,
- a minimum of four (4) years of hospital or out-patient clinical experience, and
- two (2) years of outpatient or ambulatory care experience preferred.
- a minimum of four (4) years of hospital or out-patient clinical experience, and
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program with a current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse license and
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, primary care, or comparable clinical setting.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret and apply written and verbal instructions, clinical policies, and professional standards. Demonstrates sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while managing multiple priorities. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and respond appropriately to changing patient care needs using available information and established protocols.
