Tribe Announces Availability of Fall Tribal Heating Assistance

Akwesasne, NY – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council has approved an allotment of fuel assistance to help tribal members with the upcoming fall heating season. Beginning on Seskehkó:wa/September 14, 2016; allocations will be made available through the 2016 Tribal Heating Assistance Budget to the following eligible households:

  • Tribal members who are 60-years old or more and were eligible for the January 2016 Tribal Heating Assistance shall receive up to $600.

  • Tribal members who are 59-years old or less and were eligible and received an allocation for the January 2016 Tribal Heating Assistance shall receive up to $300.

Tribal members are urged to contact their tribally licensed supplier/dealer directly at their convenience to arrange a delivery of their fuel assistance. This allocation is only available from Seskehkó:wa/September 14, 2016 to Tsiothóhrha/December 16, 2016.

The Tribe, in cooperation with licensed heating fuel dealers and vendors, has approved the request from fuel dealers to allow deliveries of half allocations to eligible applicants. The approved request will help make the deliveries and billing process more efficient for home owners, dealers and program administrators.

The Tribal Heating Assistance Program is proud that it is able to continue assisting 1,464 Akwesasne households with fuel oil, kerosene, propane, wood, wood pellets and electrical service. It is a program being offered to eligible households through the Akwesasne Community Partnership Fund supported by the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort and tribally licensed businesses.
