SRMT Health Services Reports 47.2% Vaccination Rate

Aug 27, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is reporting ONLY 47.2% of eligible individuals residing within the Tribe’s service area ages 12-years old or more are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. With 4,162 community members not protected against the virus; particularly the more contagious and severe Delta Variant; Health Services is continuing to urge all eligible community members to please get the COVID-19 Vaccine as soon as possible.

The tribal vaccination rate of 47.2% continues to fall further behind the neighboring counties of Franklin and St. Lawrence. As of August 26th, Franklin County reported 61% of eligible residents ages 12 years or more are now fully vaccinated, while St. Lawrence County reported 58.5% of eligible residents who have received their vaccination are now protected against the likelihood of severe illness due to COVID-19. (based on data from CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker as of August 26, 2021).

During the past week, an additional 50 individuals ages 18 years or more received the COVID-19 Vaccine, which included 26 first and 24 second doses. The 24 second doses, or Boosters, helped raise the percentage of eligible people 18 years or older to 50% who are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Thirteen (13) additional doses were administered to 12 to 15 years olds this week, while only seven (7) 16 and 17-year olds received the COVID-19 Vaccine. Health Services is asking more individuals in these age groups to please get the vaccine to help protect themselves. In a study issued by the CDC this week, unvaccinated individuals are 29 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19.

The COVID-19 Vaccine is safe, effective, and easy to obtain. Individuals are highly encouraged to attend the Open Walk-In Vaccine Clinic being held every Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the former-IGA Building located at 850 State Route 37 in Akwesasne. The vaccine clinic is open to anyone ages 12 and over, with parent/guardian presence required for minors. This is the only time for walk-ins.

To receive a COVID-19 vaccination directly at Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services, individuals are asked to please schedule an appointment in advance by calling the tribal clinic at (518) 358-3141.

The COVID-19 Vaccine is also available from healthcare providers and pharmacies outside of Akwesasne and can be found by texting your ZIP code to 438829, or calling 1-800-232-0233. Community members who receive vaccinations outside of Akwesasne are asked to please call the Tribe’s Outreach Program at (518) 333-0230 to have it documented with the tribal clinic.
