Tribe Reports 13 New COVID-19 Cases: 6 Total Active

Mar 21, 2022

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s COVID-19 Response Team reported 13 new cases in the southern portion of Akwesasne from Monday, March 14th to Friday, March 18th. The new cases included 2 children under the age of 4-years old, 2 children between the ages of 5 to 11-years old, 3 teenagers between the ages of 12-17 years, and 6 community members over the age of 18. During last week, 7 of the 13 new cases have completed their isolation period, but there remained 6 total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. We wish them the very best for a safe and symptom-free recovery.

March 16th marked two-years since the Joint State of Emergency was declared for Akwesasne by the Tribe and the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne; with March 28, 2020 being the first reported case in the community. Since that time; there have been 1,134 positive cases and 7 fatalities due to COVID-19 in Akwesasne’s southern portion. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to those who have lost a loved one.

The Wednesday vaccination clinic is being held at the tribal clinic’s main campus located at 404 State Route 37. The weekly vaccine clinic is open to all individuals over the age of 5-years old from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. No appointment is needed.

On Tuesdays, COVID-19 Home Test Kits are being distributed at no cost from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or while supplies last) at the clinic’s testing garage. Community members will receive either the BinaxNow COVID-19 Antigen Self Kit or the QuickVue At-Home OTC COVID-19 Test.

Individuals who test positive are asked to self-report positive results to St. Lawrence County Public Health at (315) 386-2325, SRMT Contact Tracers at (518) 333-0230, or Franklin County Public Health at https://bit.ly/3njGiRa.

Positive cases should provide notification to individuals who may have been potentially exposed.

On Mondays and Thursdays, PCR testing is available from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (or while supplies last) at the clinic’s testing garage. Please use the road located across from the intersection of State Route 37 and McGee Road and follow the signs. Due to the decreasing number of individuals that request testing and reduced staffing, the availability of testing may change in the near future.
