Tribe Reports 13 New COVID-19 Cases: 6 Total Active

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s COVID-19 Response Team reported 13 new cases in the southern portion of Akwesasne from Monday, March 14th to Friday, March 18th. The new cases included 2 children under the age of 4-years old, 2 children between the ages of 5 to 11-years old, 3 teenagers between the ages of 12-17 years, and 6 community members over the age of 18. During last week, 7 of the 13 new cases have completed their isolation period, but there remained 6 total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. We wish them the very best for a safe and symptom-free recovery.

March 16th marked two-years since the Joint State of Emergency was declared for Akwesasne by the Tribe and the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne; with March 28, 2020 being the first reported case in the community. Since that time; there have been 1,134 positive cases and 7 fatalities due to COVID-19 in Akwesasne’s southern portion. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to those who have lost a loved one.
